Cla Knight opens up 2023 season with Southern Nationals
Cla Knight began his 2023 season this past weekend for a Schaeffer’s Oil Spring Nationals doubleheader at Swainsboro Raceway (Swainsboro, Ga.) on Friday and Senoia Raceway (Senoia, Ga.) on Saturday.
At the series opener on Friday, Cla used a series provisional to start the A-Main after being unable to transfer to the feature in his B-Main. For the $10,053-to-win main event, Knight gained 10 positions in 53-lap race to finish 11th.
With a whopping 43 Late Models at Senoia, Knight qualified a strong seventh-quickest in his group. After assessing the rough track conditions, Cla made the tough decision to save his equipment and not participate in the rest of the night's events.
Making the haul to Cherokee Speedway (Gaffney, S.C.) on Sunday for the Ginger Owens Memorial March Madness event, Cla put down the eighth-quickest lap in his group and transferred to the feature with a third-place effort in his heat. With $20,000 on the line, Knight recorded a 17th-place outing.
